Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started with Renaissance Wealth Management

  • What makes us different from other financial planning firms?

Relationships come first here. Before we talk numbers, we take time to really get to know you. We believe good planning starts with trust — and that grows over time. As fiduciaries, our advice is always aligned with your best interests.

But what truly sets us apart is our loyalty to you — your goals, your family, your happiness, and your legacy. This journey is yours, and we’re here to support you every step of the way — not just for a season, but for the long haul. Financial planning isn’t just about managing money — it’s about helping you create a life you love.

  • What can I expect during our first meeting?

It’s relaxed and pressure-free. We’ll get to know you, your goals, and what’s important in your life. It’s more about conversation than charts or numbers.  Tell us what success looks like, in your words. We’ll help you build a plan around your vision. If we both feel like there’s a good fit, we’ll walk through what working together could look like. Our goal is to make sure you feel heard, supported, and confident about the path ahead — with zero pressure and maybe even a little fun along the way.

  • Is there a minimum amount I need to invest to work with you?

We don’t have strict account minimums because we believe good planning should be available to people at all stages of life. No matter where you are on your financial path – early career, midlife, or retired – we’re ready to walk alongside you.

What matters most is that you’re ready to be intentional with your finances and value having a long-term relationship with a trusted team. If that sounds like you, we’d love to start the conversation.

Our Services

  • Do you only work with retirees or people close to retirement?

Not at all. While retirement planning is a big part of what we do, we work with people in all walks and stages of life — from young professionals just starting out to business owners, growing families, and those already enjoying retirement.

Our planning grows and adapts alongside you. The more we get to know you over time, the more valuable and personalized our guidance becomes — helping you navigate life’s transitions and opportunities with direction and confidence.

  • What does “comprehensive financial planning” include?

To us, it means looking at the entire picture — investments, taxes, retirement, estate planning, insurance — and just as importantly, the personal side: your goals, values, fears, family dynamics, and the emotions tied to money.

Your plan isn’t a static document. It’s a living, breathing reflection of your life, designed to adapt as your circumstances evolve. We like to think of ourselves as part of your financial team — like a family CFO — but we can only do that well if we truly understand what matters most to you.

  • Can you help me with tax planning?

Absolutely — real tax planning is a core part of how we serve clients. Using tools like Holistiplan, we analyze your current and future tax situation to identify opportunities that others often miss — whether it’s Roth conversions, charitable giving strategies, or ways to reduce taxes over time.

We don’t stop there. We value intentionality and collaboration, so we’ll coordinate closely with your CPA and other professionals to make sure the advice we’re giving and the strategies we’re implementing all work together seamlessly. It’s all about giving you peace of mind and better outcomes — not just during tax season, but year-round.

Working Together

  • How do you get paid?

You deserve to know exactly what you’re paying for. Our fees are based on the services we provide and/or the assets we manage for you — and we never earn hidden commissions or sell products.

Here’s our standard fee schedule for assets under management:

    - Up to $500,000 – 0.94%
    - $500,000 to $1 million – 0.84%
    - $1 million to $3 million – 0.74%
    - Above $3 million – 0.64%

In our very first conversation, we’ll walk you through exactly how this works and what to expect — no surprises, no pressure. Just clarity.

Additional compensation may apply in the form of commissions for purchase of individual stocks, bonds and through service fees (12b-1) for mutual fund transactions. Fees, charges and expenses are detailed in the Cetera Advisor Networks LLC's ADV Part 2A.

  • Do you only meet in person?

We love face-to-face connections, but we also meet virtually with clients across the country. Whether it’s a Zoom call or sitting across the table in our Bloomington office, we want it to feel personal, flexible, and easy for you.

No matter how we meet, the relationship and the experience matter most — and we’ll meet you where you are, literally and figuratively.

  • How often will we meet or talk?

For most established clients, we typically schedule one to two formal meetings each year. In many cases, that’s plenty—life doesn’t always change dramatically year to year. That said, we know things can change quickly, and we’re always available if something comes up and you need to talk. Newer clients or those actively going through the financial planning process may meet with us more frequently as we build the relationship and develop your plan. Every client is different. We're not here to crowd your calendar, we’re here when you need us.

Philosophy & People

  • How do your values shape your approach to financial planning?

A: Our FAMILY values guide everything we do — from how we make investment decisions to how we communicate with you. These aren’t just words; they define how we serve clients, support one another as a team, and show up in our community. They remind us that this work is deeply personal — and that caring for your financial life is a privilege we don’t take lightly.

  • What kind of clients do you love working with?

We’re grateful to work with clients who value open, honest conversations[LF1] , collaborative relationships, and intentional growth — not just financially, but in life. Whether you’re a parent planning for college, a business owner, or approaching retirement, we love supporting people who care about using money as a tool for good.

  • Who will I be working with if I become a client?

You’ll have a dedicated lead advisor as your main point of contact, but you’re never working with just one person. Our entire team is involved in your planning — each bringing their own perspective and expertise, from tax strategy to investments to legacy planning. We work closely together behind the scenes and in meetings when needed, so your experience feels seamless and fully supported.

  • How do you define success for a client?

Success is personal. For some, it’s retiring early. For others, it’s paying for their kids’ college or giving generously to causes they love. Whatever version brings you joy, that’s the one that matters to us.

  • How do you measure success as a firm?

To us, success means serving our clients so well that they trust us enough to refer their friends and family. We don’t chase growth through ads or gimmicks. We grow by showing up, doing meaningful work, and being there when it counts.

  • What kind of relationship should I expect over time?

A long-term one. We’re in this with you for the highs and lows, the planned milestones, and the unexpected moments. As life changes, so will your plan — and we’ll be here to guide you through every step. You’re not just a client – you’re part of the family.

  • What drives your team to do this work every day?

We’re here to help people live a little better — one step at a time. For us, it’s about being of service, whether to our clients or in our community. We’ve seen how financial clarity can ease stress and bring a sense of stability, and we’re grateful to be part of that process. When people feel more secure, they often have more space for the things that really matter — generosity, joy, and giving back. That’s what keeps us showing up every day
